(SeaPRwire) –   On Friday, President Donald Trump stated that Vice President J.D. Vance “is now overseeing ‘FRAUD’ in the United States” and will be known as the nation’s “fraud czar.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that fraud “is massive and widespread” in the U.S. Regarding Vance, he noted that “the work he will undertake, alongside numerous talented individuals in the Trump Administration, will play a key role in shaping the future success of our Country.”

“We will call him the ‘FRAUD CZAR,’” Trump continued, “and his focus will be ‘EVERYWHERE,’ but primarily in those Blue States where CROOKED DEMOCRAT POLITICIANS, like those in California, Illinois, Minnesota (Somalia beware!), Maine, New York, and many others, have had a ‘free for all’ in the unprecedented theft of Taxpayer Money. The numbers are so large that, if successful, we would literally be able to balance our American Budget.” The President provided no evidence to back up these claims.

Vice President Vance’s office directed TIME to an Executive Order signed by Trump on March 16, which creates an anti-fraud task force tasked with “coordinating and speeding up a thorough national strategy to combat fraud, waste, and misuse in federal benefit programs—including those run in partnership with state, local, tribal, and territorial entities.” The order specified that the Vice President would act as the task force’s chair.

Last week, Vance convened the task force’s inaugural meeting. The session was closed to the public, but Vance mentioned ahead of time that fraud required a “whole-government approach” to be addressed.

According to The Associated Press, Vance said: “This is not just the theft of the American people’s money. It is also the theft of critical services that the American people rely on.”

Fraud has been a key priority for Trump during his second term. Over the past few months, the President and his administration have repeatedly singled out Minnesota regarding fraud allegations—freezing federal childcare funds and “temporarily” halting more than $250 million in Medicaid funding for the state. Trump also justified his tough immigration crackdown in Minneapolis by citing these allegations.

California has also been a target of the administration’s anti-fraud efforts. In his Friday Truth Social post, Trump noted that “raids have already started in L.A.” The previous day, federal authorities revealed they had arrested eight people accused of participating in health care fraud schemes in and around L.A. On the same day, the White House’s official rapid response account on X highlighted news that Vance’s anti-fraud task force had suspended over 200 hospice and health care providers in California.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and California Governor Gavin Newsom have both stated that their states have spent years fighting fraud. They also pointed to past pardons Trump granted to several individuals convicted of fraud charges.

Earlier this year, Vance announced the creation of a new position within the Justice Department focused on fraud investigations. He added that the person holding this role would report directly to him and the President. A few weeks after that, Trump selected Colin McDonald for the new post—Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement. Vance administered the oath of office to McDonald for this role on Wednesday.
