Thailand Tightens Campaign Against Illegal Gambling Websites and Their Promoters

(AsiaGameHub) –   Thailand is stepping up its crackdown on illegal online gambling, with authorities reporting that over 4 million young individuals have engaged in online betting over the past six months.

National Police Chief Police General Kittirat Phanphet has directed law enforcement agencies to enhance their investigative efforts and take appropriate measures.

Thai police state that authorities have blocked more than 717,000 links between October 2025 and May 2026 on platforms like Facebook, Line, and TikTok. The operation remains ongoing as they continue to target and uncover additional illegal sites.

The Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) leads the charge in identifying gambling operators, probing financial transactions, and shutting down unlawful websites. Authorities plan to close 309 gambling sites during May and June.

Police report that multiple arrests have been made, and additional warrants will be issued in the coming weeks. Further enforcement will be rolled out as the 2026 World Cup approaches, with increased focus on football-related betting platforms.

Law enforcement is using artificial intelligence tools to detect illegal gambling activities and track operators.

Authorities note that gambling websites have adjusted their payment methods in response to previous enforcement measures. Now they are utilizing corporate accounts, PayPal, or other cryptocurrencies.

Despite ongoing enforcement efforts, police observe that demand for online gambling remains high. At least 4 million people aged 15 to 25 have participated in online gambling in the early months of 2026.

Officials also warn gambling operators against using influencers and livestreams to promote their services. These promotions target financially vulnerable individuals and present gambling as a quick way to make money.

The Royal Thai Police stated that enforcement will continue against gambling operators and those who promote such activities online.
