2 farmers nabbed for illegal gun possession

FOR allegedly possessing illegal firearms, two farmers from San Carlos City and Calatrava town, Negros Occidental were arrested by authorities on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.Lieutenant Ruby Aurita, deputy police chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said they arrested Rogelio Campania, 26, alias “Diding,” of Sitio Nangka in Barangay Bagonbon in San Carlos City around 7 a.m.Recovered from his possession was a .45 caliber pistol.Aurita told SunStar Bacolod that they received several complaints from Campania’s neighbors who claimed that he would fire his gun in their area, while others said they were threatened by the suspect.Due to these complaints, Aurita said they sought for a warrant from San Carlos City Acting Executive Judge Arville Delgado so they could search the house of Campania.Aside from the gun, San Carlos City policemen also seized a magazine of .45 caliber pistol and five live ammunition of similar firearms from Campania, Aurita also said.Meanwhile, authorities also trooped the house of Ernesto Elijeno Sr., 52, in Sitio Dela Rosa, Barangay Agpangi, on the strength of a search warrant issued by Delgado following threat complaints from his neighbors.Calatrava Municipal Police Station chief Major Lumyaen Lidawan said they received reports that Elijeno, a member of a force multiplier group, is involved in a murder case.Lidawan said no charges were filed against Elijeno because of supposed fear, adding that the latter’s son Ernesto Jr., 21, was also arrested along with him after the raid at their residence.Authorities recovered a homemade shotgun with magazine, three live ammunition of the 12-gauge shotgun, a sulpak, a makeshift firearm from the house of the Elijenos, police records showed.
