ABOUT 12 men who were wearing bonnets and armed with short firearms ransacked the residences of two kagawads in Barangay 1, Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.Hinigaran Municipal Police Station chief Captain Ryan Villasario said the burglars, who barged into the residences of Kagawads Marciano Dizon and Jose Froilan Yap in Sitio San Manuel, were looking for “election money.”Investigation showed that the burglars barged into the residence of Dizon and held him up at gunpoint before searching for what they called “election money.”When they failed to find what they were looking for, they instead took five cellular phones and left Dizon’s house and proceeded to Yap’s residence, Villasario said.Since they did not find what they were looking for at Yap’s house either, they decided to leave on board their unidentified vehicles, he said.Villasario added that they are looking into the possibility that the robbery was a form of harassment or it could either be politically-motivated.As of Thursday, May 5, investigation was ongoing to identify the burglars. The police official also said that they are not discounting the possibility that the New People’s Army could be behind the incident. No one was hurt, he added.
