THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bacolod City has rescued four individuals, including a one-year-old girl, who were trapped inside a three-story commercial building on Corner Gonzaga-Lopez Jaena Streets, Barangay 26 on Monday evening, April 25.Rescued were Mark Anthony Morino, 31; his wife, Jay, 35; their one-year-old daughter; and their co-worker, Jinky Chavez, 19.City Fire Marshall Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi said the couple was the caretaker of the Big Thumb General Merchandiser owned by Tomas Lim.He said Chavez was the helper of the building’s owner.Investigation showed that the fire started on the second floor of the building around 7:26 p.m. where their stocks like electrical and motorcycle parts were stored.Legaspi said the fire immediately spread to the first and third floors. He said the couple and the helper were staying on the second floor but they scampered for their safety. He added that Mark Anthony went to the top of the building carrying his one-year-old daughter, while his wife ran to the corner of the third floor along with Chavez.Legaspi stressed that they successfully evacuated the four persons through the fire exit of the building, but Mark Anthony sustained minor burns on his left lower leg.The fire destroyed P4 million worth of properties. It was put out around 8:36 p.m.Legaspi said they are eyeing faulty electrical wiring as the possible cause of fire since it’s full of electrical supplies and motorcycle parts. The BFP official reminded the public to always check the electrical connection or immediately unplug an appliance if it smokes or has an unusual smell, and have it repaired. He also urged the business establishment owners to have fire exit for the safety of their employees and family members.
