“It’s a wild thinking.”This was what Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday, May 18, as he assured that Bacolod City will remain as the capital city of the province.Lacson clarified speculations that Bacolod City and Negros Occidental will become “one” after the victory of mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez.”Ano? Madula ang Bacolod? (What? Bacolod will be gone?) I don’t think Albee Benitez ran for mayor only to lose Bacolod,” he said.Earlier, both Lacson and Benitez assured a synergy and harmonious relationship between the province and city.It has been observed that there seems to be a lack of coordination and synchronization of decisions between the city and the province, especially at the height of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic under the administrations of Lacson and outgoing Mayor Evelio Leonardia.Meanwhile, the planned transfer of the Provincial Capitol Building from its present location in Bacolod City to Talisay City is facing uncertainty at this time.”We will have to go through a rebidding so we informed the contractor that this is the rule that we would like to transfer the location but we will call for a new bidding,” the governor stressed.Lacson already sent a letter to the project contractor that initially won the first bidding if they are willing to join the rebidding.But as of Wednesday, there was no reply yet, he said.”Three years have been wasted already and if the contractor is not willing [to join] the rebidding of the project, most likely we have to stay in the area,” the governor also said.Dynamic Builders and Construction Corp. won the nearly P1-billion project to build a nine-storey Provincial Administration Building at the 25-hectare property of the provincial government along the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in Talisay City.The contractor already received the 15 percent advance payment for its mobilization fund.
