Balay Silangan to open this April

THE City Government of Bacolod will open the Balay Silangan Reformation Facility along Lacson Extension in Barangay Singcang-Airport before the end of April.Executive Assistant Moises Dela Cruz, focal person of City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac), said Friday, April 8, that the center will accommodate 29 drug surrenderers from various barangays in the city.He said the lists were submitted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).Balay Silangan, the national drug reformation program, offers temporary refuge with an objective of reforming drug offenders into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society.The P5-million two-story drug reformation center will be jointly operated by the City Government and PDEA.Dela Cruz said the reformation program will be funded by the government and the drug surrenderers will stay in the Balay Silangan for one month.”After their reformation program, they will be monitored by the City Health Office (CHO) and Cadac,” he said.Those with severe substance use disorder will be catered at the center for free, he said, adding that they will be scheduled by batch but will not force those who are not willing to be rehabilitated.Doctors and nurses will be assigned to take care of the drug surrenderers along with the PDEA personnel.Records showed that since last year, Bacolod City has a 4, 511 drug surrenderers.In 2018, the PDEA identified Bacolod City as one of the pilot sites of the Balay Silangan Reformation Program in the country.
