REELECTED Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said Tuesday, May 31, 2022, that the local government has allocated P850 million for projects that will prime the local economy amid the impact of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.Escalante said most of the projects under the fund include construction of farm-to-market roads and drainage systems. He said the projects are also complemented with modern agricultural equipment that will be given to farmers.”This is our way to recovery as these projects will also generate additional employment, especially to the hinterland areas,” the mayor said, adding that it will also mitigate the effect of “tiempo muerto” or “dead season” because of the off-milling period in the province’s sugar industry. The road concreting, the mayor said, is important in order for tourists to have easy mobility, especially on the 11 waterfalls found in the locality. The city government is also boosting the farming methods by providing agricultural equipment that could lead to higher productivity, he added.Escalante was with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson during the distribution of housing assistance worth P5,000 each for 76 beneficiaries who lost their houses due to Typhoon Odette on Tuesday.Meanwhile, aside from 76 beneficiaries in Cadiz City, Lacson also distributed yesterday P5,000 housing assistance to each of the 215 beneficiaries in Victorias City and 669 in Pontevedra.Lacson will also visit Ilog on Friday to also distribute the housing assistance from the National Housing Authority.
