NEGROS Occidental Sixth District Rep. Mercedes “Chedeng” Alvarez-Lansang of the Sixth District of Negros Occidental Sixth District Representative has denied allegations that their family helped Kabankalan City mayor-elect Benjie Miranda won over incumbent Mayor Pedro Zayco.”Personally, I know Miranda because during my first term as a congresswoman he was the Punong Barangay of Tan-awan so we used to work together,” Alvarez-Lansang, on the sidelines of her proclamation yesterday, May 11, said. She said that for the past several elections they have been allies with the Zayco administration, which means that “there is no truth to that rumor,” especially that they belong to one party.Miranda unseated Zayco, brother of former governor and Kabankalan City mayor Isidro Zayco, who also served as mayor of the city for nine years in his previous term.Zayco’s runningmate, Vice Mayor Raul Rivera, also lost to Miguel “Migz” Zayco.Meanwhile, Alvarez-Lansang said she will talk with other congressmen from Negros Occidental for the plan of establishing a Kidney and Heart Center in the province. The center, she said, is vital for Negrenses although it will not necessarily be built in the Sixth District. As former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Alvarez-Lansang is again eyeing the position in the Congress.
