DOH: Bacolod 2nd highest in number of Sars-CoV-2 variants in Western Visayas

BACOLOD City ranked second in Western Visayas in terms of the number of variants of Sars-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus disease (Covid-19), as of Monday, April 4, records from the Department of Health (DOH) in the region showed.The highly urbanized city recorded 289 variants, tailing Iloilo province with 494.Of the number, 109 are Omicron, four are Alpha, six are Betha, 36 are Theta and the rest are the more contagious and deadlier Delta.But Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical and data analysis of the Bacolod Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said all of the patients have already recuperated.The positivity rate of the Negros Occidental capital city is at 2.11 percent as of Monday, April 4, with 27,915 cumulative cases, DOH-Western Visayas said in a statement.The city is also in the top three with the highest deaths recorded due to Covid-19, with 842, it added.Negros Occidental had the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the region at 1,451 out of 27,915 cases.Meanwhile, in a media briefing on Monday, April 4, the regional line agency noted that 42,608 Bacolodnons aged 12 to 17 years old have already been fully inoculated against Covid-19 and 42,608 of them have already received their booster shots.It added that 3,832 children aged five to 11 years old in Bacolod City have been fully vaccinated.As to adults aged 18 to 59 years old, 497,323 of them are fully vaccinated and 55,413 have received their booster shots, while 76,472 senior citizens have completed their jabs.However, only 11,438 or 18.9 percent of the total number of fully inoculated senior citizens returned for their booster shots.
