Elections in Bacolod City generally peaceful

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) declared the national and local elections in the city as generally peaceful.Acting Bacolod Comelec Officer Revo Sorbito said Tuesday, May 10, that there has been no reported any untoward incidents during the voting period in different polling precincts in the city.”We were able to announce the winning candidates for the City of Bacolod around 9:04 a.m. Tuesday,” Sorbito said.If not for the technical issues that affected some of the machines on Monday evening, he said they could have proclaimed the winning candidates earlier.”I believe that this is one of the fastest, if not the fastest elections in Bacolod,” he added.The Comelec official said he is thankful to all the teachers, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and those who have been part of activity.”We already consolidated all the results and proclaimed all the winning candidates. From the very start and until now, we can confidently declare that our elections here have been very peaceful,” he said.Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, spokesperson of BCPO, said the polling precincts were secured before the election day until the time when all the election returns have been transported back to Comelec-Bacolod.He added that from the start of the election period on January 9 to May 9 this year, the City Election Monitoring Action Center (Cemac) of the BCPO confiscated a total of 13 firearms and nine bladed weapons.Gabana noted that BCPO has no incident reported in violation of the liquor ban.For his part, BCPO director Colonel Thomas Joseph Martir expressed his satisfaction in the result of the security preparations rendered by BCPO personnel and other government agencies that have helped in making the elections peaceful and orderly.Martir said he is thankful for the cooperation of the public to deliver safe, accurate, fair and honest elections in the city.”All efforts have paid off and as election period is nearing its end, the police organization enjoins everybody’s commitment to the elected government officials and work as one for our beloved Bacolod City,” he added.
