GlobalPort takes over Pulupandan Port operation

GLOBALPORT Terminal Inc. took over the operation of Pulupandan Port in Pulupandan town, Negros Occidental that has been closed for about five years.Philippine Ports Authority (PPA)-Negros Occidental Acting Port Manager Engineer Nelson Caabay said GlobalPort Terminal Inc. owned by Michael Romero won the bidding for a 15-year concession worth P527 million.Caabay said the port operation as stated in the 15-year contract commenced on April 8, 2022.The PPA will still supervise the port operation, he added.For his part, GlobalPort Terminal Inc. General Manager Glenn Tabanao said Pulupandan Port is one of the nine ports that are now operated by the company.Tabanao said they will bring in their expertise in port operation and will soon resume the trips of roll-on, roll-off (roro) vessels going back and forth to Guimaras.Cargo vessel operations, he said, has already resumed on April 8.”Employment opportunities from stevedoring to office personnel will be opened up,” he said, adding that among the projects they are eyeing at the port include dredging.Of the 14 hectares total area of the port, 12 hectares are covered by the contract of concession between the PPA and GlobalPort Terminal Inc.
