NEGRENSE basketball player Burj Gabriel Lapu-os, a point guard of the ELITELab Team headed by Coach John Guanco, was named among the Mythical 5 of Chairman’s Cup, 17U Division in University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City on April 10.It is an honor given annually to the best basketball point guard shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center.Lapu-os is the son of former ABS-CBN Bacolod employee Vivian Lapu-os and a grandson of the late broadcaster Jun Lapu-os.It is in the same league that Kib Montalbo and Daniel Coo, former players for the St. John’s Institute Falcons, were also named as mythical 5.Lapu-os hailed from Talisay City, Negros Occidental and also played for SJI Falcons.He has received offers and invitations from prestigious schools in Western Visayas and in Metro Manila.Lapu-os said that constant practice is always part of his routine and training, adding that he is continuously trained by his dad even amid the Covid-19 pandemic.When he got an invitation from an Iloilo based-coach he never had a second thought in accepting it, he said.“Being chosen to be in mythical 5 is truly an honor because it is in the same league that my fellow Johnians and players that I looked up to were also awarded the same title,” he said.The young baller said that there is still a lot to learn and recognition like this even inspires him to do better.
