“AS WE approach the homestretch of the election campaign, more fake news and disinformation are becoming a daily fare on mainstream and social media channels both in the local and national fronts.”This was the reaction of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia following allegations on social media that he is endorsing the presidential bid of Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, who visited him on Thursday, April 28.“Just like other presidential aspirants and those running for other national positions, who came to see me at the Bacolod City Government Center before him, he (Domagos) was (also) welcomed by Bacolodnons.Leonarida reiterated that it has been his policy to open Bacolod to all candidates for national office no matter which political spectrum they represent.“Vice President Leni Robredo was met by an enthusiastic crowd clad in pink when she visited me late last year (while) Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio of Davao City got a festive welcome as well,” the mayor recalled.Other personalities who came to Bacolod and met Leonardia, who is a Duterte-Carpio supporter, included Senator Franciss Pangilinan Pangilinan and actress Helen Gamboa, wife of Senate President Vicente Sotto III.“I have not endorsed any presidential candidate (and) I have declared this position many times before in various media interviews and public fora,” Leonardia said.I hope that this statement sets my position very clearly,” he emphasized.* (PR)
