REVENUES generated by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental from various facilities it runs have went down by at least 40 percent covering the period of 2020 to 2021, an official said.Provincial Administrator lawyer Rayfrando Diaz said Tuesday, April 19, that the drop income is attributed to the non-operation of the Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary at Barangay Minoyan in Murcia town and Negros Residences in Bacolod City. These were temporarily converted to facilities intended for coronavirus disease (Covid-19)-related measures like vaccination and quarantine.Diaz pointed out, however, that the Negros First Cyber Centre, also in Bacolod City, earned about P65 million in the last seven months.”It is lower than the projected earning,” he said, adding that many of the leases have requested for discounts. The Ayala Malls Capitol Central and 888 Chinatown Square, for instance, asked for up to 40 percent discount on the lease during the Enhanced Community Quarantine and 25 percent during the Modified General Quarantine.”We granted their request for a discount in the spirit of bayanihan and support for our investors and businesses who are mostly from Bacolod City,” he said, adding that they asked the businesses to also grant the same discount to their tenants. The provincial official said they are optimistic that with the opening of Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary today, April 20, tourists will once again flock to the facility resulting in additional revenues for the province. The Negros First Food Terminal in Bacolod City, on the other hand, will soon be awarded to those that applied for space.”It will also generate income for the provincial government,” Diaz said. The province, he said, will step up its tax collection efficiency under a new treasurer with the help of local government units.
