“DON’T bet during the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals.”The warning came from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) over the weekend as the final match between Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors nears.Nocppo spokesperson Lieutenant Abegael Donasco said placing bets on the sporting event is a form of illegal gambling under Presidential Decree 1602.Under Section 1 of the law, those who are caught taking part in illegal games both directly and indirectly can face fines ranging from P500 to P2,000 while repeat offenders face a penalty of P1,000 to P6,000.Aside from criminal offense, policemen who will be caught engaging in such activities can also face administrative charges.”Spend your money wisely for the family, not on gambling that may cause you trouble,” she added.
