VICE presidential candidate Dr. Willie Ong and senatorial bet Dr. Carl Balita declared their “health tandem” during their visit in Bacolod City Monday, April 4.Dr. Gil Octaviano III, along with other supporters, welcomed Ong and Balita, as they visited some areas in the city and spoke about their respective programs. The two candidates said that even though their names do not fare well in political surveys, they still believe that they have to continue their quests.Despite being the runningmate of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, who is seeking the presidency, Ong said he is open to supporting whoever wins as president.Ong stressed that he is not receiving any financial support from businessmen, among others, saying that he does not want to work for their vested interests. The vice presidential aspirant said his expenses had not reached a million pesos yet because he was doing his campaign with less fanfare.Ong added that if he and Balita win, they will correct the enormous gap between the wealthy and average businessmen, as he assured that “we will moderate their greed by controlling various industries in the country.”For his part, Balita said that Bacolod is close to his heart due to his alliance with Octaviano and his spouse. The senatorial aspirant said he believes that he is a unique candidate as he is the only licensed teacher and doctor of education running for the Senate.Balita is known in the media as an entrepreneur guru who hosted a radio program “Radyo Negosyo” for 20 years now and became a partner to many micro enterprises.Initially, his family did not want him to seek an elective post but seeing his capacity to be part of the solution to the many problems of the country, they allowed him to file his candidacy, he said.Balita likened their candidacy to “a fresh blood that needs to be transfused to the country to save it from being ill.”As new politicians, he said, they have better and more innovative ideas in various fields of expertise. They both hope that Bacolodnons and Negrenses will consider their names in their list of candidates in the May polls.
