Palicte faces Moloney in Australia

TWO-TIME world title challenger Aston Palicte faces highly-rated Jason Moloney for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver and World Boxing Organization (WBO) International bantamweight belts on June 5, 2022 at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.Palicte is currently on a three-fight winning streak since an upset unanimous decision defeat to Renz Rosia.Palicte, 31, stopped both Jonathan Francisco and Reymark Taday, and outclassed Roland Jay Biendima by a lopsided unanimous decision.Palicte first challenged for a world title against fellow Pinoy Donnie Nietes for the vacant WBO super flyweight belt in 2018. The fight ended in a split draw.Palicte earned another chance the following year for the same vacant belt against Kazuto Ioka. He was stopped by Ioka in the 10th round.Palicte is currently ranked No. 6 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No.14 by the WBO. A win against a highly ranked opponent in Moloney should boost him in the rankings.Moloney, on the other hand, is a winner of back-to-back fights. He beat highly-touted Joshua Greer Jr. and Francisco Portillo both by unanimous decision.Like Palicte, the 31-year-old Moloney also failed in two world title attempts. He lost to Emmanuel Rodriguez in an IBF bantamweight title contest in 2018. He challenged Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue for the IBF and World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight belts but got knocked out in the seventh round.Moloney is on the brink of another world title shot. He’s ranked No. 2 by the WBC, No. 3 by the WBO, No. 8 by the IBF and No. 9 by the WBA.Palicte is 28-4-1 with23 knockouts, while Moloney is 23-2 with 18 knockouts.
