FOR CADIZ City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., the political lines have already been drawn in Negros Occidental as far as the national elections are concerned.Escalante, also the secretary general of United Negros Alliance (Unega), said yesterday, April 17, that the mayors in the province are comfortable with their current stand, adding that he does not believe that local officials will shift their support anymore. He said that he will not anymore convince other local officials in Negros Occidental to join him in his support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.“As fellow mayors, we respect their decisions as much as they respect ours,” Escalante emphasized. As far as Unega is concerned, they agreed to have “zona libre” (free zone) thus, they free to choose for the national elections, the mayor added. He noted that he is only campaigning to other friends and maybe 10 to 20 percent of them may change their mind.Escalante along with Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III have earlier announced that they will support Robredo.Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has also committed to support Robredo while Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and 29 other mayors in the province back the tandem of former senator and leading presidential contender Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.Escalante said that he supports the call of former Murcia Mayor Sonny Coscolluela, spokesperson of the BBM-Sara campaign in the province, to respect the results of the May 9 elections.Escalante said that the final survey of the Filipino people will be on election day.*
