NEGROS Occidental Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang said on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, that the provincewide vaccination drive against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is set on June 2022.Hoping to reach the 80 percent target of the Department of Health (DOH), the provincial government’s scheduled inoculation is every Thursday and Friday for the first three weeks of June, and on Monday and Tuesday during the last week of the same month, Tumimbang said.He said they are aiming to reach 100 percent of the residents eligible for vaccination which comprises about 80 percent of the province’s total population. This means that the province will vaccinate 666,373 Negrenses in June, the provincial health officer said, adding that he already discussed the matter in Tuesday’s meeting with all the municipal and city health officers in the province at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City.Through the Provincial Vaccination Days, Tumimbang said they are aiming to downgrade all localities in the province to Covid-19 Alert Level 1 from the current Alert Level 2.He emphasized that their approach would either be through a house to house vaccination drive or per barangay depending on the target of every locality.“The vaccine supply of the province is sufficient and that we would no longer request for additional vaccines from the national government,” Tumimbang stressed.Aside from the national government, the province also received some vaccines from private companies. The massive vaccination drive is a local initiative approved by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson. The provincial government is also holding vaccination among children against measles dubbed “Chikiting Vaccination” which is also set on the last Thursday and Friday of June this year.
