LG Electronics moved with unusual speed when it signed the memorandum of understanding on August 13 at NVIDIA’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to accelerate robotics commercialization through physical AI. What followed within days felt like a coordinated reveal, as senior NVIDIA officials toured LG’s Yangjae R&D Campus to inspect progress on a data facility that most competitors would hide for years. This is not a distant partnership announcement; it is a decisive play for control over the data loops that will define robotic intelligence.
The Data Factory spans four floors and covers 10,000 square meters, designed to be fully operational by the end of the year with several hundred robots housed inside. LG has deployed its CLOi home robots on-site to generate and collect data, while a replica home environment supports cleaning task training and a simulated manufacturing floor mirrors the washing machine plant in Tennessee. Data collected there, combined with synthetic inputs from NVIDIA Cosmos, is slated to reach 100,000 hours by year-end 2025, feeding directly into LG’s Robot Foundation Model that serves as central machine intelligence.
LG plans to connect its manufacturing and logistics data with NVIDIA’s full robotics stack, leveraging Omniverse libraries, Cosmos open world models, and the Isaac robotics development platform to simulate environments and streamline training before real-world deployment. The focus remains on household cleaning tasks and manufacturing work, both treated as long-term commercial vectors, with a dedicated Robotics Business Center reporting to the CEO established last month as the operational nucleus. LG CEO Lyu Jae-cheol framed this year as the formal launch of a robotics business push, aiming to combine internal capabilities with partnerships like NVIDIA’s to eventually offer comprehensive robotics solutions.
The data pipeline and compute architecture reveal the true intent behind the collaboration, turning what looks like a component supply deal into a structural shift in how robots learn from the physical world. As LG moves from industrial and commercial robots into home robots, the integration with NVIDIA’s stack will determine whether it can convert data scale into durable competitive advantage. Without owning the full stack, any player remains a component vendor, and LG’s bet suggests it intends to be more than that.
