The White House is urging the public to report content it labels “Fake News,” marking the newest escalation in President Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign.

The White House recently introduced what it refers to as a “Media Bias Portal,” cataloging journalists, news organizations, and articles it considers biased against the Trump Administration. On Tuesday, the White House also unveiled a tipline, prompting Americans to “submit biased or undeniably false articles” to assist in maintaining the “Media Bias Portal’s” current status.

According to the White House, the portal serves as “a service to truth and transparency.”

“Its objective is to confront the unfounded falsehoods, deliberately excluded context, and blatant left-wing extremism of the Fake News Media—a significant undertaking requiring assistance from all who prioritize facts and accuracy over ‘Fake News’,” the statement continued. “Self-proclaimed ‘journalists’ have rendered it impractical to pinpoint every inaccurate or deceptive report, making the American public’s help crucial. The era of the Fake News Media dictating the narrative through fabrications, fabricated anonymous sources, and deliberate prejudice has concluded.”

Key information follows.

Defining the “Media Bias Portal”

The portal features an “Offender Hall of Shame,” which is a compilation of articles, news organizations, and reporters categorized by the White House under labels such as “bias,” “false claim,” “lie,” “left-wing lunacy,” or “misrepresentation.”

Additionally, the page identifies the “media offender of the week.” For the current week, the White House has spotlighted three news organizations: The Boston Globe, CBS News, and The Independent. Several journalists were also targeted, including Andrew Feinberg, White House correspondent for The Independent, and Eric Garcia, its Washington Bureau Chief.

Both journalists commented on their inclusion in the portal via their social media accounts.

Feinberg stated on X on Monday that “The White House is providing a valuable service by curating this guide to top-notch, fact-based reporting.” He further mentioned that The Independent’s coverage is available on its website or application.

Garcia remarked on X on Monday, “FWIW, all jokes about Trump putting me on a list aside, I can still do my job.” He continued, “That’s very different from journalists in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and Gaza. A few months ago, an Israeli strike killed Maryam Abu Daqqa, who wrote for my outlet. I’m blessed.”

The portal criticizes the media’s reporting on Trump’s response to a video from six Democratic lawmakers, which encouraged military and intelligence community members to decline unlawful orders.

According to the portal, “The media misrepresented President Trump’s call for Members of Congress to be held accountable for inciting sedition by saying that he called for their ‘execution.’” It further states, “The Democrats and Fake News Media subversively implied that President Trump had issued illegal orders to service members. Every order President Trump has issued has been lawful. It is dangerous for sitting Members of Congress to incite insubordination in the United States’ military, and President Trump called for them to be held accountable.”

The Democratic lawmakers featured in the video did not cite any specific orders from the President; instead, they asserted that military and intelligence personnel “can refuse illegal orders.” Legal specialists have affirmed the legality of this message. The Uniform Code of Military Justice mandates that service members “obey any lawful general order or regulation” but permits them to decline unlawful orders.

The Trump Administration’s deployment of the military has drawn legal examination this year. Judges recently determined that Trump acted unlawfully by deploying National Guard troops to Portland and Washington, D.C.

Nevertheless, the President labeled the lawmakers “seditious” and demanded their arrest.

On Truth Social, he declared, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” He also shared multiple social media posts critical of the lawmakers, including one from a user advocating for their execution by hanging (that particular post seems to have since been removed).

Trump’s History of Media Attacks

Trump possesses an extensive record of assailing the media; he popularized the phrase “fake news,” a term he has persistently employed during his second term to target mainstream news organizations publishing reports he considers unfavorable. Over recent months, Trump has also initiated several lawsuits against news outlets, including CBS News, ABC News, and various entities linked to the Wall Street Journal. While his actions against CBS and ABC have reached settlements, the litigation involving the Journal remains active.

Furthermore, the President has faced criticism for his recent attacks on the press, especially targeting female reporters.

Last week, he publicly called a New York Times journalist “a third rate reporter who is ugly, both inside and out,” following her co-authored piece suggesting he had displayed “signs of fatigue” since reassuming office earlier this year.

In early November, when a Bloomberg News reporter inquired about documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s case, the President responded with, “Quiet, piggy.”
