REELECTED Bacolod Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya will lead the transition team of Bacolod City Mayor-elect Alfredo “Albee” Benitez.Incumbent Councilor Al Victor Espino of Team Asenso said that Gasataya had already accepted the request of Benitez.Previously, Gasataya was also the temporary interim mayor when former mayor Monico Puentevella was suspended, Espino said.“He (Gasataya) already has knowledge and also, as a former city councilor, he’s familiar with the department heads,” the councilor explained. In the May 9 elections, Benitez got 171,893 votes and defeated incumbent Mayor Evelio Leonardia of Grupo Progreso (GP) who only obtained 107,447 votes.“We hope that our department heads will respect, not just the person at the mayor’s office, but they will (also) respect the Office of the City Mayor,” Espino said.He said that Benitez wants an evaluation [of the city employees] to determine who are really working and assured that they will remain in their posts.Unlike in previous administrations wherein some employees were transferred or were placed on floating status, it will not be the same case with the Benitez administration, he said.Espino stressed that the job order employees, who are performing their duties like those who are assigned at the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) and are willing to stay under the administration of Benitez, will not be removed.“We will accept them because we have to understand that these traffic enforcers are job orders who are working on streets every day, rain or shine,” he sai, adding that it would take time to train new enforcers if they are to be replaced.Espino noted that he had already talked with some members of the traffic enforcers to determine their total number.“The politics is over and the Benitez administration wants us to work together,” Espino stressed.Benitez, in an interview after the proclamation, earlier said this is the victory of the people of Bacolod City.”This is the change that we are looking for and that’s what I intend to bring here in the city. We intend to execute our platforms that we promised during the campaign,” he said.Benitez added that they have several plans for Bacolod, noting his eight-point agenda to be given in his first 100 days.
