AN ACCORD pushing for proper water supply management and a water-secure future was signed by top officials of Negros Occidental at the Nature”s Village Resort in Talisay City Thursday, April 7, 2022.Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the signing during the Negros Occidental Provincial Water Summit 2022 as he stressed that the security of the province’s water resources “depends on us.”“There is so much work to be done (and) all local government units should be onboard,” Lacson said.It will also involve the Private-Public Partnership Center (PPPC) that will provide technical assistance if there are interested private sector investors, he said.The provincial government also signed a memorandum of agreement with the PPPC for its commitment to provide technical assistance whenever there are investors who would want to invest in the province.The governor said investments are needed for such a huge undertaking.For his part, Third District Representative Francisco Benitez said the provincial government committed to properly manage water supply, “access to water and the use of water all the way from its extraction to replenishment of our watershed as well as the sanitation component.””We need to cluster local government units so that they will have the economy of scale including funding from the green financing for appropriate infrastructure for the water management system,” Benitez said.”We have a depleting forest, especially the watershed areas,” the lawmaker added.
