Victorias City farmers now own 90-hectare land

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has installed 82 farmers in Victorias City on the 90-hectare land in simultaneous agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) installation rites earlier this month.The ARBs were installed in the property formerly owned by Elena Montelibano located at Hacienda Dolores, Barangay 20 in the northern Negros Occidental city.Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Jeremiah Barrientos, who led the activity, reminded the farmer-beneficiaries of their duties and responsibilities as new landowners.These include paying taxes to the local government and amortization to the Land Bank of the Philippines, as well as making their land productive.”Refrain from involving in any illegal activities that may lead to your disqualification,” Barrientos told the ARBs.DAR-Victorias City also briefed the ARBs on the different programs offered by the agency like land tenure improvement that includes agrarian legal services and access to support services.Layout and monumenting survey activities were also conducted to appropriately mark and indicate the technical descriptions of the lot specified at their certificate of land ownership awards (Cloas).As mandated under Republic Act (RA) 6657, the DAR is vested with the primary jurisdiction to determine and adjudicate reform matters and to extend free legal assistance to farmer-beneficiaries affected by agrarian cases.Moreover, the agency said it continues to provide support services towards realizing its vision for a just, safe and equitable society that upholds the rights of tillers to own, control, secure, cultivate and enhance their agricultural lands, and improve their quality of life towards rural development and national industrialization.”The round-the-clock field activities conducted by the DAR are evidence of its unwavering support to the tillers of the land despite the inconveniences brought by the pandemic,” it said, adding that “the service to the Filipino people never stops.” (With PR)
