On Tuesday, Russia launched a large-scale and deadly missile attack on Ukraine, resulting in at least 41 fatalities and over 180 injuries.

The missile strike targeted the city of , located approximately 70 miles from the Russian border, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed. People found themselves under the rubble. Many were saved,” Zelenskyy said in a video posted on social media.

“All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation,” he said, adding that he has ordered “a full and prompt investigation” into the incident.

The attack occurred shortly after the city’s air raid siren sounded, when many residents were heading to bomb shelters, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, which described the strike as “barbaric.”

Rescue crews and medical personnel managed to save 25 people, 11 of whom were pulled from the rubble, Ukrainian officials report.

Zelenskyy used the opportunity to urge Western allies to swiftly provide military assistance.

“Ukraine needs air defense systems and missiles now, not sitting in storage,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.

“Long-range strikes that can protect us from Russian terror are needed now, not later. Every day of delay, unfortunately, means more lost lives,” he added.

The strike follows Ukraine’s own , marking the first time Ukrainian forces have crossed into Russian territory since the war began. Ukrainian forces have been engaged in battles in the region for several weeks.

Over the past month, Ukraine has targeted bridges and crossings over the Seim River in Kursk, aiming to hinder Russia’s ability to supply its forces in the region as Ukraine continues its offensive to reclaim the territory, according to East2West.
