(SeaPRwire) –   Little Britches’ donation in Mount Vernon, Illinois, benefits the Veterans Assistance Commission of Jefferson County and the United Way of South Central Illinois.

Mount Vernon, Illinois – May 11, 2026 – Kelly R. Scott, owner of Little Britches, is leveraging a local contribution to issue a nationwide appeal for communities to back the organizations already supporting families, veterans, and neighbors in their areas.

As Little Britches transitions into its next phase, Scott revealed that portions of the store’s remaining inventory and fixtures will be donated to two local nonprofits: the Veterans Assistance Commission of Jefferson County, Illinois, and the United Way of South Central Illinois.

The donation features clothing racks for the Veterans Assistance Commission’s clothing closet, which provides essential apparel to veterans and their families. An additional portion of the donation will go directly to the United Way of South Central Illinois.

For Scott, supporting the United Way holds deep personal significance. Her uncle, Gordon B. Tittle, was actively involved with the United Way in Henderson, Kentucky, and has an award named in his memory.

“Being able to support the United Way in even a small way feels incredibly meaningful. My uncle believed in service, community, and showing up for people. As Little Britches moves into this next phase, it feels right that some of what helped us serve families can now help another organization continue serving families too.”

Established in 1999, Little Britches has supported families for over twenty years. Scott views the donation as a way for elements of the former store to keep serving others in a practical and meaningful manner.

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Jefferson County will use the donated clothing racks to enhance its clothing closet for veterans and their families.

“This donation from Little Britches will allow us to display our clothing donations in a way that is not only more appealing but also more accessible for the veterans and their families we have the opportunity to serve. I am truly looking forward to getting it set up and how much it will add to our clothing closet. We have been getting quite a few quality donations, and this will allow us to display them all so those in need have an easier time getting what they need. I could not be more grateful for the donation, especially when the opportunity to sell the items was readily available to the store.”

Zach Brooks is superintendent of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Jefferson County, Illinois.

Though the donation originated in Mount Vernon, Scott hopes its message extends far beyond southern Illinois. She urges business owners, families, and community members across the country to seek simple, tangible ways to support their local United Way chapters, veterans organizations, clothing closets, and family-focused nonprofits.

Scott notes that many believe giving must be substantial to make a difference, but local organizations often rely on practical support—such as clothing, household goods, volunteer time, store fixtures, supplies, and financial contributions.

“Little Britches has served families since 1999, and this donation feels like a way to let pieces of the old store continue serving families in a new way,” Scott said.

The donation also reflects Scott’s broader shift toward speaking, advocacy, and community-centered initiatives. As Little Britches evolves, Scott is channeling more of her public platform into themes of resilience, accountability, service, and the responsibility individuals have to support one another both online and in person.

Scott emphasized that the goal is not merely to mark a business transition, but to remind people that every community already has organizations doing vital work. These groups need sustained support—before a crisis, during a crisis, and long after public attention fades.

Community members interested in helping are encouraged to reach out to their local United Way, veterans assistance commission, veterans service organization, clothing closet, or family-serving nonprofit to find out what is most needed.
